Meet the new Roverland Tent Heather

Cold weather doesn’t stop great adventures, but it does change the way you camp.

Anyone who has spent a night in a tent during late autumn or deep winter knows the real challenge isn’t just the cold. It’s the moisture. Condensation builds up overnight, gear becomes damp, sleeping bags never fully dry, and the comfort of your camp slowly disappears.

At Roverland, we wanted to solve that problem properly. Not with a quick upgrade, but with a complete rethink.

After years of real-world testing and feedback from customers around the world, we went back to the drawing board and rebuilt our tent heater from the ground up.

The result is the Roverland Tent Heater 2.0. And we must say that we are very proud of it.

From Heater 1.0 to a new generation

The original Tent Heater 1.0 proved itself over the years. It travelled with us and many clients on countless trips and did exactly what it was designed to do: keep the tent warm and dry during cold and rainy nights off the beaten path.

So when we started working on the next version, the goal wasn’t to fix something that didn’t work. The original concept had already proven its value. What we wanted was to build on that foundation.

The Tent Heater 2.0 is therefore a new version, but the fundamental principles behind the system remain the same. What changed is everything around it. Over the years we gathered experience from real trips, feedback from users, and lessons learned during many cold nights in the field. Those insights allowed us to refine the construction, improve the details, and rethink certain parts of the system.

The result is the Tent Heater 2.0: a new generation that stays true to the original idea while bringing the design a step further.

Engineering the Tent Heather 2.0.

The heater is built around a compact and robust construction, designed to integrate easily into your camping setup without taking up unnecessary space. Durability played a major role in the design process, as equipment used in winter conditions needs to perform reliably night after night.

By heating the cold outside air, the relative humidity of the air drops allowing it to absorb mositure from the tent. This is so effective, that even when your gear is damp after breaking camp in the rain, it manages to drie everything in only half an hour. The circulation of warm air keeps the entire tent cosy warm. Even when temperatures drop to -30°C.

The heater integrates a custom built, 7 liter fully welded fuel tank, increasing strength and reliability during transport and use. A billet aluminium fuel cap adds durability while ensuring a solid and secure closure. Depending on the conditions, the 7l of fuel lasts over a week.

The outer casing is designed with size in mind. Measuring only 55cm x 36cm x 15cm, it allows versatile mounting on the roofrack, spare wheel on to the side of your Overlander. The casing is finished with a durable textured powder coat, protecting the heater from scratches and harsh conditions. To further protect the internal components, the casing is fully weatherproofed, helping the system withstand wet environments.

For transport, outlet plugs prevent water ingress, ensuring the heater remains protected even when conditions are far from ideal.

One of the major improvements is native connectability to both 12V and 230V power sources, allowing the popular lithium power stations to be used to power the heater. This solves the limitied power output of these power stations preventing heater startup. During startup the heater uses a glow plug to preheat the combusiton chamber and initiate combustion. This typically takes about 100W during a minute after which electrical power drops to 10-29W.

Key specifications

  • Operating temperatures: tested for use down to –40°C

  • Continuous warm air circulation to reduce condensation and moisture buildup

  • Compact and robust construction designed for expedition-style travel

  • Adjustable heat output for different conditions and tent sizes

  • Remote control operation with wired thermostat allowing adjustments without leaving your sleeping bag

  • Usable up to 4200m due to integrated altitude compensation

Warm and dry, even at –40°C

When people think about winter camping, they often think about temperature. But in reality, one of the biggest challenges is moisture inside the tent.

Warm breath, damp clothing, and humidity slowly build up during the night. When that warm air meets the cold tent fabric, condensation forms, leaving tent walls wet and gear damp by morning.

The Tent Heater 2.0 was designed to tackle exactly this problem. By creating a continuous circulation of warm air, the system helps reduce condensation and keeps the tent environment warmer and significantly drier.

In the right conditions, it allows comfortable camping in temperatures down to –40°C, extending the camping season far beyond the colder months.

Designed for Overlanders

The Tent Heater 2.0 was designed to integrate naturally into different Overland setups. Whether you are traveling with a roof tent, ground tent, or expedition vehicle, the heater can be mounted and positioned in a way that suits your setup.

The compact layout and thoughtful design make installation straightforward, while still leaving room for flexibility depending on how your camp is organized. It can be mounted securely to vehicles or used as part of a fixed camp setup, allowing it to become a reliable part of your overall system.

The Tent Heater 2.0 can be mounted and used:

  • Horizontally, for example low-profile on your roof rack to minimize air resistance, or mounted on a spare wheel carrier.

  • Vertically, secured to the side of your vehicle using cargo rails or dedicated mounting brackets. The integrated handle and rubber feet allow you to take it anywhere.

A stainless steel mounting bracket keeps the heater solid and secure, even during long trips over rough terrain. For setups where the heater is mounted externally, optional lockable fasteners provide an extra level of protection.

Enough power to heat multiple tents

Thanks to the 2kW power output, the heater is capable of heating multiple tents simoultaneously through our dedicated splitter. The splitter kist comes with an additional 2.5m air hose.
